I was born on the edges of the St. Lawrence River and I belong to a family of sailors. This river is part of my life and it is an essential character in the Québécois cinema as are our lakes and our rivers. Water is a film character. Mexico City provides us with the setting to discuss water, which makes life possible.
The 4th World Water Forum makes us question water accessibility. To whom does water belong? Why do some people feel they have the right to monopolize it and sell or control it in the large world market? And I, who has so much of it, why do I waste it? How can I participate?
The cinema is the vehicle par excellence to become aware of the challenges associated with good water management.
An element of discord and even a cause of wars, driver of economic development, source of energy and essential for food production, water is thus sometimes a leading character in the movies.
The 1st International “Water and Film Event” invites you to exchange with the film makers from all over the world, your questions and concerns on water issues. Will it be possible for us to meet in a second meeting?
